The Raft Restaurant In Walvis Bay Lagoon Namibia
With triple aspect, floor to ceiling windows to the East,
South and West the Main Restaurant covers a vast area seating 165 guests and offering fabulous views over
Walvis Bay Lagoon. Amazingly, despite the high ceilings and
enhanced by the unusual and interesting shape of the whole area, the feeling is amazingly cozy and many
guests remark on the great ambiance they have experienced throughout their meal.
The use of bright, yet warm, yellows and oranges on the walls
contrasts perfectly with the old jetty poles scarred by mussels and limpets, which rise through the floor and
out through the roof. The floor itself is made from the original Walvis Bay jetty gangway
planks and although not too friendly for stilettos (tee hee) and a napkin challenge to those who prefer their
tables not to rock, it adds to the wonderful acoustics that emanate from the timber
building.
In keeping with the rustic, oceangoing/wood ship feel, the
tables and chairs are hand-made locally from natural wood and the chairs have leather seats upholstered in
natural coloured hides. The friendly and knowledgeable staff welcome guests equally, in their ‘Glad Rags’ for
a special occasion, or their Khaki shorts fresh out of their suitcase at the end or start of a
safari.
‘Variety is the spice of life’ and there is no shortage of that
on the
